FAMILYFAMILYTREE BLOG PROJECT 2008-2010
.......................................
This blog existed from October 2008 until December 2009. While it lasted, it was a place for friends to share, create, and have fun. FamilyFamilyTree has since moved on to other things. Now, this site exists as a tomb.

DEATH/REBIRTH
. . . . . . .
Just letting everyone know that I consider Family Family Tree a mostly dead project. It is no fault of your own. I am open to suggestions. Leave them in the comments I guess.
under the cirucumstances it seems to me that while the quality of posts has not necessarily deteriorated per se, but rather the direction and focus of said posts via a 'collective of friends' model have caused said model to stray from its initial appeal. attempts have been made by the administrators to bolster the collective challenge, i.e. Swim Week and Perfume Week, which have manufactured some renewed interest. however, the ultimate goals of these challenges remain somewhat unclear, which i feel has contributed to a perceived lack of interest in the sustained efforts of our group. can we clear some of this up and ask ourselves what we really want out of this? maybe we should do something totally different, i don't know, maybe this is dead. i still enjoy reading new posts and comments on things that i've created. And not only that, the knowledge that this the members of this particular assemblage are the ones reading and commenting is a motivational tool to me, not to mention a distinct comfort.
I'm disappointed that you removed all the old posts from the feed Greg. I understand they are still in the archives, but taking them off the mainpage ruins the chances for a new reader to come across it and look at content (even if its months old)
Agreed! Although FFT has strayed a bit in content, its the link between us that's important, especially after graduation. I was planning on pitching this as a .com to you guys (After a CSS makeover)... I've had multiple conversations with my brother about FFT being one of the only prolific collectives that I feel is already established and is ready for improvement. FFT has all the potential in the world, we've got so much talent in one place, ultimately i think it's a commitment of members to provide substantial content. I would personally be disappointed if it went under for good.
Let us consider that perhaps greg has pitched this pseudo death out of the wise understanding that all things must lurch into their rebirth from a renewed consciousness of the parties involved.
ie, I agree with Jon--our collective has produced great stuff and has truly valid potential. But it could stand improvement, which takes committment, and probably a more clearly defined content focus.
I concur with Jon and B. I conquer with a sword. I blame a bit of senioritis.
I really think the reasons outlined above will only matter more--from the standpoint of our own collective interconnectedness--as the majority of us continue to web out to our corners of the country over the next year.. and FFT will be a hub to communicate and keep and touch. Hopefully then we all have a skoach more time to make more cool shit.
I really really like this blog and I don't think it's fair to call it a failure. I've always enjoyed using this as an outlet to share things I've made and found while keeping up with what everyone else has been up to creatively. I'm not convinced of the need for restrcitive themes here and there. I think themes can be great, but I'm not convinced they should be enforced. Can't say I have much of an opinion about perfume, for instance, so there goes my participation until the week's over. As Jon said, I hope to maintain this collective space as a place to share and connect, as I always perceived it to be. I certainly look forward to continued posts, as long as this space exists for them, so let's continue it with positive intentions and remember how this all began, even if our interests may vary.
i was gonna comment on how I always feel guilty not posting more- cause there are certain things i come across and say to myself (and sometimes outloud) "hey i should post that to FFT". This could be the much-needed spark under my blogger butt.
PS: What about a facebook group to gain audience, and a twitter feed to keep people updated? I think having an audience beyond our peers can encourage us even more. Plus, my favorite part of this 'blog' is the back and forth, bouncing of ideas between members. I feel like it's extremely valuable to inspire each other, but also to have a record of it.
teh system is down
ReplyDeleteok here's a legitimate comment -

ReplyDeleteEveryone name a few of your favorite posts, and we can link to them in this notice.
ReplyDeleteAll of them. I'm sad too that the updates have been a little slow, but I really loved this site.

Let it live.
But kill perfume week.

ReplyDeletewsxwhx604 is right!
ReplyDeleteI motion for Family Family Tree to continue on as an asian porn site aggregator.
ReplyDeleteI felt honored to be a part of this collective, and I really hope it continues - in whatever form.
