JEFF SCHER - L'EAU LIFE

I came across the films of Jeff Scher while looking at the New York Times today. He's been writing a blog for them that includes short animated pieces. The blog is thus called, The Animated Life. I enjoyed a lot of the shorts on this blog, but could only find this film, L'eau Life on YouTube. Here is what Scher wrote of this film when it was first posted online.

"L’eau Life began as an experiment in animating water in motion with water color. I wanted to get the feel of water and the emotion of being in it, while capturing the water action moments that are the most fun to draw: jumping, swimming, falling in and climbing out. Because I stuck to these highlights and cut quickly, the film developed a momentum that began to feel almost hypnotic, but happily so. As it evolved it became a celebration of water and summer."

This could have been a great way to end the Swim posts, but I'm a few days too late.

SEAN LOVES VIMEO PROJECTS

So recently I've gotten into Vimeo, which is a really cool video sharing community. It's pretty much a hip YouTube with good video quality. But the creators are really into having users create projects for other users to make videos for. One of their ongoing series is called, the "5x5 Vignette." Where you edit together 5 clips, 5 seconds each. The clips can be related in someway, or heck, completely unrelated. After watching other people's 5x5s, I decided to make my own.

Check other 5x5 videos from the official vimeo channel here.

THE NOVEMBER PROJECT: PART ONE

Family Family Tree is about working together to create something whole. I decided that for the month of November, I would assign the members of FFT a little project. I asked them to create 10 second videos that reflect one's subjective idea of the month of November. My mother always calls this series of 30 days, "dreaded November." I guess her reasoning is because November is the time that all the leaves die, it becomes gray, and it rains a lot. I guess that's true. But November isn't THAT bad, right? Who knows, maybe it is. I wanted people to take 10 seconds and devote it to what November means to them. All these videos were created on cell phones and flipcams. Here we go!

Jackson Adams
"A ten second analysis of what happens in November"

Greyory Blake
"November: exactly 3 years ago, i received a concussion while camping. the next morning, i drove home while listening to e*vax."

Jon Campolo

Sean Hanley
"My most recent recollection of November: Pie and Fionn Regan"

We'll be posting more 10 second videos, plus other parts to the November project as the month continues
